Orchard Festival
2008

CARSE
OF GOWRIE ORCHARD FESTIVAL - 18th to 26th October
18th /19th October - Glendoick Apple Weekend (Glendoick Garden
Centre) 11am to 4pm daily
* Bring your apples along for identification by renowned Fife
expert Willie Duncan;
* Sunday: t.b.c. Watch Scottish chef Christopher Trotter demonstrate
his favourite fruit recipes;
* See the colourful display of 120 varieties of Scottish fruit;
* Enjoy the fruity menu at the Garden Centre Restaurant;
* Fruit-themed books, food tastings by local producers, fruit
trees to buy;
* Find out about the history of the orchards in the Carse;
* Help make and taste fruit juice with John Hancox of the Scottish
Childrens'
Orchard;
* Take part in children's art competitions and pass on your favourite
fruit recipe!

/26th October - Family Fruit Weekend, Elcho Castle, Rhynd, by
Perth Usual Historic Scotland hours and admission price - but
accompanied children free in October
* Explore the orchard and pick a bag of fruit for an apple pie;
* Saturday - Historic Scotland Ranger events for all the family, including
Bug Hunts in the Orchard;
* Sunday - Pick the fruit, make and taste the juice with John Hancox of the
Scottish Children's Orchard;
* Take part in children's art competitions and pass on your favourite fruit
recipe!
Also - School Orchard Days for local schools: help plant new
trees throughout the Carse Volunteer Days - your chance to help
restore local orchards

PRACTICAL TRAINING COURSE: SMALL-SCALE CIDER MAKING with Michael Pooley of the
Shropshire Apple Trust.
A one-day course (choice of Saturday, 18th October or Sunday, 19th October 2008)
to be held at Glendoick Garden Centre, Glendoick (between Perth and Dundee)
10am to 5pm with lunch and refreshment breaks: pre-booking essential. Fee payable.
