SUMMARY:Stanley Swift Project
DESCRIPTION:Our Scottish-born swifts are only with us for three months each year. After a journey of up to 6\,000 mile from equatorial and southern Africa\, they return to their chosen nests in Scotland in early May and head south to Africa again in August. Their nest sites here are at constant danger of being lost so we need to find out where they are to help safeguard them for the future. \nCome and join our volunteers as they carry out surveys of swift nesting sites and flying swifts across Stanley village throughout the month of June. We don’t necessarily plan far in advance as we go out on evenings when the weather is suitable\, usually in the couple of hours before dusk. Contact us at stanleyswiftproject@gmail.com if you’d like to arrange to come out with us one evening and see what is involved.

SUMMARY:Tayside Garden BioBlitz (Online)
DESCRIPTION:Starting today\, let’s go outside and record the wildlife in our gardens! No particular knowledge is expected as sightings are verified by experts. \nThere will be insects (butterflies\, bumblebees\, hoverflies\, ladybirds etc)\, birds and perhaps the occasional mammal (hedgehog\, squirrel\, mouse) – and don’t forget the wildflowers in your garden. It’s all important – and great fun to discover! \nBy joining nearly 49\,000 observers in the UK we can record what we find via the iNaturalist App. It is very easy to join – https://uk.inaturalist.org/sign up – and once you have\, you can record wildlife anywhere in the world. \nThen click on https://uk.inaturalist.org/projects/every-action-counts-tayside-s-local-patch-project and choose which area of Tayside you are in (right hand column). \nSo far\, just within the UK\, iNaturalist ‘citizen scientists’ have created almost 5 million records\, helping scientists understand more about our wildlife. Explore more:\nhttps://uk.inaturalist.org/ or watch one of the short tutorial videos – https://www.inaturalist.org/pages/video+tutorials. \nThe online Tayside Garden BioBlitz starts today (and you can take part just today if you wish). However\, why not regularly explore your garden over the coming months and add more species as you find them as the seasons change?
