SUMMARY:BioBlitz at Carnoustie Golf Links
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Carnoustie Golf Links on Thursday 27th June and Friday 28th June 2024 for the first ever Golf BioBlitz\, sponsored by the R&A Foundation. Discover the wildlife lurking in the rough as we explore sand dunes\, heath\, woodlands\, and wetlands around the golf courses to try and record as much as we can in 24 hours! Bring binoculars\, magnifying glasses\, and anything else that may help you find a variety of flora and fauna\, big and small. \nJoin us on the Thursday evening from 7pm for an evening bird walk lead by Angus and Dundee Bird Club (TBC) followed by a Bat Walk at 10:30pm to find bat hotspots on the golf courses – don’t forget to bring a torch! \nOn Friday 28th June\, we’ll kick things off by finding out which moths have been caught in our overnight moth traps\, followed by self-led sessions along a designated BioBlitz route meandering through an array of habitats. Small breakout sessions to identify butterflies\, check hedgehog tunnels\, and more will also take place during the main day with the main programme TBD. \nID guides and books will be available to use and there will be a handful of experts on hand to help with identification. You may just discover a whole new passion! \nPlease download the iRecord app to your phone or tablet to log your records on the day. We will then collate everyone’s records together at the end of the BioBlitz to find out how well we have done! \nLet us know if you’re coming by emailing sustainability@carnoustiegolflinks.co.uk

SUMMARY:Tayside Garden BioBlitz (Online)
DESCRIPTION:Starting today\, let’s go outside and record the wildlife in our gardens! No particular knowledge is expected as sightings are verified by experts. \nThere will be insects (butterflies\, bumblebees\, hoverflies\, ladybirds etc)\, birds and perhaps the occasional mammal (hedgehog\, squirrel\, mouse) – and don’t forget the wildflowers in your garden. It’s all important – and great fun to discover! \nBy joining nearly 49\,000 observers in the UK we can record what we find via the iNaturalist App. It is very easy to join – https://uk.inaturalist.org/sign up – and once you have\, you can record wildlife anywhere in the world. \nThen click on https://uk.inaturalist.org/projects/every-action-counts-tayside-s-local-patch-project and choose which area of Tayside you are in (right hand column). \nSo far\, just within the UK\, iNaturalist ‘citizen scientists’ have created almost 5 million records\, helping scientists understand more about our wildlife. Explore more:\nhttps://uk.inaturalist.org/ or watch one of the short tutorial videos – https://www.inaturalist.org/pages/video+tutorials. \nThe online Tayside Garden BioBlitz starts today (and you can take part just today if you wish). However\, why not regularly explore your garden over the coming months and add more species as you find them as the seasons change?

SUMMARY:Biodiversity Villages & Towns Midsummer BioBlitz
DESCRIPTION:Every Action Counts – Tayside’s Local Patch Project \nOur Perth and Kinross Biodiversity Village\, Town & Neighbourhood communities can add their own wildlife records all year round using their own individual page (check out the details in the link below). First though\, it is very easy to sign up as an iNaturalist observer to add your sightings – https://uk.inaturalist.org/signup. \nFor the Festival’s Midsummer BioBlitz\, you can discover the wildlife in your own community over the next two days and add your observations online via the iNaturalist App. No wildlife knowledge is expected so just follow the advice on the App! \nKnowing what wildlife is using “our patch” we can look after it far better. You can concentrate just on your own garden\, local park\, churchyard or allotment\, involve the school or nearby businesses\, or ask if residents in the local care home can enjoy some wildlife-spotting in their grounds. \nPlease record and share observations of your local pollinators\, birds\, animals\, trees or wild plants – whatever you see. Beyond these two midsummer “bioblitz” days\, you can still record all the species you see in the months to come. \nFind out more by going to the dedicated Biodiversity Villages & Towns iNaturalist page –\nhttps://www.inaturalist.org/projects/biodiversity-village-communities-mini-bioblitz?tab=about \nWe will be adding to the list below so let us know if you can’t see your community –\nAbernethy / Alyth / Ardler / Auchterarder\nBertha Park\, Perth / Blairgowrie & Rattray\nCrieff / Crook of Devon Dunkeld & Birnam / Dunning\nErrol / Guildtown / Kettins / Kinnesswood\, Portmoak and Scotlandwell\nKinross / Luncarty / North Muirton\, Perth / Pitlochry\nSt Madoes & Glencarse / Stanley / Wolfhill

SUMMARY:Join our Online Midsummer BioBlitz!
DESCRIPTION:Every Action Counts – Tayside’s Local Patch Project \nDiscover the wildlife in and around your own home over the next two days and add your observations online via the easy iNaturalist App. No wildlife knowledge is expected so just follow the advice on the App! \nIf we know what wildlife is using “our patch” we can look after it – and enjoy it. This can be in our own garden or allotment\, school\, business or care home grounds\, or a local park or graveyard. \nRecording wildlife means that every action really does count so please record and share observations of your local pollinators\, birds\, animals\, trees or wild plants – whatever you see. You can aim for a “bioblitz” of your patch recording all the species you see over a short time – or you can take it steady and visit the same space every few weeks or once in each season. \nFind out more by going to the dedicated Tayside iNaturalist page – https://uk.inaturalist.org/projects/every-action-counts-tayside-s-local-patch-project?tab=about and make a start! \nIf you have yet to join iNaturalist as an observer just go to http://uk.inaturalist.org/signup first and then you can add your observations from anywhere in the world for as long as you want!
