Stanley Swift Project

Our Scottish-born swifts are only with us for three months each year. After a journey of up to 6,000 mile from equatorial and southern Africa, they return to their chosen nests in Scotland in early May and head south to Africa again in August. Their nest sites here are at constant danger of being lost so we need to find out where they are to help safeguard them for the future.

Come and join our volunteers as they carry out surveys of swift nesting sites and flying swifts across Stanley village throughout the month of June. We don’t necessarily plan far in advance as we go out on evenings when the weather is suitable, usually in the couple of hours before dusk.
